Art Statement
Kristen Frailey is a landscape painter whose work seeks to understand the drama of light and the connections she has found in outdoor spaces.
Her art highlights the wild beauty of the West through her use of vibrant color and sharp detail. An avid outdoorswoman, Kristen’s work showcases the joy she experiences in her travels through rock and snow.
Many of her larger pieces start as a sketch or quick painting done en plein air to capture the feeling and atmosphere of the moment before bringing it back into her studio to develop those ideas on a larger scale.
Observation and memory manifest in the physical form of paint strokes on canvas. Her work speaks to those who find joy and meaning in the land around them.
Bio
Kristen Frailey grew up in the foothills of the southeast and went to college to pursue a career in healthcare while chasing her artistic passions on the side.
She moved to Utah in 2021 to seek out a closer connection to the mountains and places that inspire her work.
While primarily self taught, she has learned from a community of traditional painters, finding mentorship in artists such as Kathryn Stats and Mark Boedges. Kristen began to sell her work in 2022 and has since participated in festivals and shows across Utah.
